Facebook or Hi5?
We are much more addicted to facebook rather than hi5. as we know hi5 and facebook both are of same kind but still there is a lot of different in popularity among them. Facebook probably is the biggest and most popular social networking site. Why is there no hype for hi5? Well, there are several reasons. Some may even prefer hi5 for facebook but then it all depends on whom you ask the question. In some countries HI5 is more popular. Like in Portugal everyone uses Hi5. It has like 90% market share. Anyways if we talk in the whole world, Facebook sure beats the hell out of Hi5. Few of the advantages of facebook over hi5 are as follows:
- The first and foremost is facebook is an application platform. Developers built social applications on Facebook Platform that millions of people use everyday. The games, quiz, everything you use or participate in are likely an application. Although Hi5 lacks this feature.
- The ads on Hi5 go beyond intrusive. Every other time you refresh a page an ad blocks half the screen, forcing you to close it to see what you want to see. This is not the case with Facebook. There are almost no ads you can seen in your Facebook.
- Hi5 is too flashy and also seems to be 'over customizable'. Usually, on a blog or network or whatever, you have set professional looking themes, or it's customizable only by people who know what they're up to, be it CSS or whatever. Hi5 has the unenviable ability to turn a profile into the most hideously monstrous looking page in less than a minute. They're often unreadable. Facebook on the other hand is not customizable. There are ways you can customize it but it can only be done my experts.
- Also most of the features of Hi5 were copied from other social networking sites. Many say they don’t have anything original. Even the chat service that has recently been started in Hi5 is copied from Facebook.
- Facebook has chat system which is much easier to be in touch with aboard friends. But Hi5 lack this system.
These are just few reasons why people who like facebook comment about not being present in hi5.
So which do u prefer Facebook or Hi5???

Twitter adds Follow Fast button
Now, one need not sign up on Twitter to receive updates from others. Twitter has introduced a " fast follow" option that will allow people to receive Twitter updates from specific users without creating an account of their own.
This means if someone who is not on Twitter wants to receive updates of say a certain celebrity on Twitter, he could send a text message to 40404 with `follow + name of the person' in the body of the text message. Twitter will then text that person the future tweets of the person/celebrity he wants to follow.
According to Twitter, that the feature will make it easy for people to get quick updates from people or companies they want to hear about on-the-go.
"Try it out the next time you see a Twitter @username at a restaurant or store, on a billboard or on TV, or if you hear one mentioned on the radio," Twitter's Leland Rechis wrote in a blog post.
However, Fast follow is currently only available in the US, but Twitter is working on bringing it to other countries, Rechis wrote.
There'a also another way to sign up to receive tweets via text is to click the mobile phone icon at the top of a Twitter user's page. Next to the "Follow" or "Following" button is a photo of a cellphone. Users just need to click on it to get twitter updates.
Twitter is also reportedly launching an official "Tweet" button that Web site owners can embed in their Web sites. Clicking on it will send that story to your Twitter feed, and a counter will track how many times it has been tweeted.

Facebook launches online safety page
SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook has launched a Web page devoted to staying safe on the Internet.
The "Safety Page" will highlight news and initiatives focused on ways people can keep data secure at the world's leading online social-networking community, Joe Sullivan of Facebook said in a blog post.
The new page was intended to augment a virtual Safety Center that Facebook introduced in April and was based on a "security page" that boasted more than 2.2 million "fans".
"Online safety is a shared responsibility," Sullivan said. "We'll continue to think of innovative ways to promote safety on our service and elsewhere on the Web."
The number of people using Facebook topped the 500 million mark last week, meaning one in every 14 people on the planet has now signed up to the social netowork.
The launch of the Safety Page came in the wake of demands by privacy activists that Facebook give users of the booming social network more control over the use of their personal data.
A coalition of privacy groups, in an open letter to Facebook co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg last month, welcomed the social network's recent overhaul of its privacy controls but said additional steps were needed.

No More Facebook in Mantralaya
Maharashtra Government blocks the social networking site in its headquarters.
According to The Times of India, the Maharashtra government has blocked access to popular social networking website Facebook in its headquarters the Mantralaya.
The IT department within the Mantralaya was asked to block access to the website following complaints that the employees there were hooked to the website during the work hours thereby affecting work. The move has largely been criticised by employees from the Mantralaya. The Times of India quoted a Mantralaya employee saying that they use Facebook only during lunch breaks or when they do not have any other important work.
However, senior officials at the Mantralaya clarified that the Internet connection at the office is supposed to be used for official purposes only.
Do you feel blocking access to Facebook in the Mantralaya is a right move?

YouTube Gets Video Editor
YouTube has introduced a new Video Editor to its growing list of features. This is a new tool that will allow users to edit their videos (already uploaded ones, as well as new ones) without the need of a standalone video editing tool .
The feature, which is still being rolled out to YouTube users across the globe, has the ability to edit and add a background music to the video using YouTube's commercial AudioSwap library of licensed songs. The Vide Editor is intended for casual users who would like to spice up their videos without the expertise of professional video editors.
However, in the future we might see a advanced version of this same video editor in Google's Chrome OS as pointed out by CNET.
According to the YouTube Blog, the video editor can, in its current avatar, let users:

Google crowns Facebook king of Internet visits
Facebook.com is visited monthly by 540 million people, or slightly more than 35 percent of the Internet population, according to Google Ad Planner worldwide data gathered using recently-acquired Double Click.
Approximately 570 billion pages are viewed monthly at Facebook.com, more than eight times as many pages as are viewed each month at second-place Yahoo.com which gets 490 million visitors, according to Google.
The figures support word from Facebook that it has not been abandoned by members despite carping by politicians, consumer groups and privacy advocates that want tighter safeguards on personal information at the website.
Only 23,515 people had signed up as of Friday at a "We're Quitting Facebook" website as "committed" to dump the social-networking service as part of a campaign to stage a mass protest on May 31.
That number represents less than .006 percent of Facebook's more than 400 million members.
Facebook is overhauling privacy controls in the face of a barrage of criticism that it is betraying the trust which has made it the world's biggest social network.
Facebook redesigned its privacy settings page to provide a single control for content and "significantly reduce" the amount of information that is always visible to everyone.
Facebook also said it is giving users more control over how outside applications or websites access information at the service.
"This is a pretty big overhaul to the system we already have," Zuckerberg said while outlining the changes during a Wednesday press briefing at the social network's headquarters in the California city of Palo Alto.
"Now we are making it so there is less information that has to be public. People want a simple way to control the way information is shared with third parties, so that is what we are doing," he said.
The revamped privacy controls began rolling out Wednesday.
Facebook last month sparked criticism from privacy and consumer groups, US lawmakers and the European Union by adding the ability for partner websites to incorporate data regarding members of the social-networking service.
Critics continue to call for Facebook to make all user information private by default and then let people designate what they want to share case-by-case in an "opt-in" model.
Facebook has rejected such a model, saying the service is based on a premise that people want to connect and share with friends and people around them.
Top 10 Ways To Attract Any Woman
When most guys set out to impress a woman they do all the wrong things. Here are 10 ways you can set yourself apart from the 39 other lame guys she’s met, and I guarantee that she’s both impressed and intrigued by you.
No.10 - Be original
I don’t know many women who haven't been taken out to dinner at least 100 times. So, be original and, when you get together, do fun things that she doesn’t get to do with anyone else. Take her on a bike ride or to the park to play Frisbee or to a tiny Italian cafe that has a fascinating story behind it. Sneak up to the top floor of the highest building in the city or take her to a playground and go on the swings. It’s doing fun things like this that will get her addicted to you -- fast.
No.9 - Stay in control
Women like a man with a plan; when you call her up, don’t make her “work” by having to make any decisions. Let her know exactly what time you are picking her up, where you are taking her and what she should wear. When you get to wherever you are going, decide what you are going to do there, and where and how you are going to do it. Let her sit back and relax while you take care of the details. And later, show her where your bedroom is -- and for god's sake, take her clothes off for her. It’s the gentlemanly thing to do.
No.8 - Be chivalrous
Being chivalrous is a powerful way to let a woman know that you’re the man and she’s in good hands. Open doors for her and pull out her chair. When you’re walking down the street, make sure you always walk on the outside of the curb, and tell her why you’re doing it. Put your hand on the small of her back when walking into a restaurant or across the street. You’ll be surprised at just how much this turns her on.
No.7 - Be cool
Don’t be the type of guy that sweats the small stuff… like an nonreturnable phone call. Simply pretend you were too busy to even notice that she forgot to call you back. She’ll probably assume you were busy with other women -- which is always a good thing.
No.6 - Be mysterious
Too many guys make the mistake of throwing their entire lives on the table when they meet a woman they are interested in. So, be different and hold some things back -- especially those that people might consider impressive. People are much more impressed by the accomplishments of others when they “discover” them rather than being told about them. For instance, if she asks you what you drive and you happen to drive a nice car, tell her you ride a motor scooter. When she finds out the truth, she’ll be impressed not only with your vehicle, but also your sense of humor and modesty.
No.5 - Have a life
The one thing that all men who are really successful with women have in common is that they all have great lives of their own, and they don’t need a woman in their lives to be happy. Women find this extremely attractive. It’s easy for a woman to land a guy that “needs” her, but when she meets a guy that has a successful and happy life already, she’ll do whatever she can to convince him that she should be a part of it. So, find some things that you are passionate about, whether it be hobbies, sports or business pursuits, and make them your main priorities instead of her. Keep yourself active and well-rounded -- and let her be the one to try to chase you down. She’ll love you for it.
No.4 - Be unpredictable
The single biggest mistake men make with women is being predictable. You’d think women would appreciate it if they knew exactly when you were going to call and what you were going to do when you got together, but in reality it kills the two biggest things women long for in a relationship: excitement and anticipation. So don’t always call exactly when you say you will. Invite her over to take her out to dinner, and take her straight to the bedroom instead. Invite her over to get physical, and instead take her out to dinner. Are you beginning to get the picture? Keep her guessing and you’ll have no problem keeping her around.
No.3 - Make her earn it
I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying that states that “people don’t value what they don’t have to work for.” Well, the same holds true for women and dating. If you’re putting in all of the effort in the relationship, she won’t value you or appreciate your time. So make sure she’s calling you as much if not more often then you’re calling her. Have her come over to your house and pick you up every once in a while, and ask her to help you out with small favors here and there. The more work she puts into the relationship, the more she’ll value it -- and the more she’ll want to get out of it (and that includes sex).
No.2 - Make a move
After she’s proved herself to you, it’s time to be a man and make a move. Women don’t respect a man who doesn’t have the guts to go for that first kiss -- or anything else -- so don’t let her down. Making a move will make her feel sexy and attractive, and it will show her that you are the type of confident, powerful man she is looking for.
No.1 - Be casual
The last thing a woman wants is a guy who starts calling her 10 times a day after they’ve had a fun night out. If you start acting like you’re ready for marriage after the first date -- or even the fifth -- you might as well have the words “I’m desperate!” tattooed across your forehead. Instead, keep things cool. Don’t rush into anything, and let her be the one to take things to the next level. She’ll respect you more and you’ll have a far better chance of ending up in the great relationship you are looking for

Facebook Privacy Under Review Again After EU Criticism
A European data protection group on Wednesday penned a letter to Facebook in which it told the social networking site that its recent privacy changes are "unacceptable".
That Article 29 Working Party, a collection of European data groups, sent letters to 20 social networking sites overall, but singled out Facebook for "fundamentally chang[ing] the default settings on its social-networking platform to the detriment of a user."
The changes have been criticized by consumer groups, members of Congress, and privacy watchdogs because, the groups say, Facebook has not done enough to inform users about how their information is being used.
The Working Party said in its letter that social networks like Facebook need a "default setting in which access to the profile information about the connections of a user is limited to self-selected contacts."
"Any further access, such as by search engines, should be an explicit choice of the user," according to the regulators.
The Working Party also warned third-party developers about using members' personal data. "Providers of social networking sites should be aware that it would be a breach of data protection law if they use personal data of other individuals contained in a user profile for commercial purposes if these other individuals have not given their free and unambiguous consent," the group said.
The letters serve as a follow up to a June 2009 report about social networking from the Working Party and a subsequent hearing in November with three major social networks, including Facebook.
Facebook said it is currently reviewing the Working Party letter.
"While there are many things in their letter we agree on, there are others where we do not, such as around the Party's suggested use of pseudonyms on social networks," a Facebook spokesman said in a statement. "Facebook has always been based on a real name culture, and we fundamentally believe this leads to greater accountability and a safer and more trusted environment for our users. There are plenty of places on the Internet where a person can be anonymous — Facebook is not one of them."
Facebook defended its policies, arguing that the company gives "our users granular controls [that] enable each user to customize many individual settings in order to share, or protect, as much information as they feel comfortable with."
"We already enable users to exclude themselves from being indexed by search engines, and recently introduced granular data permissions for applications," Facebook concluded.
To that end, Facebook will also be holding an internal privacy summit of sorts on Thursday to discuss its privacy policies.
"We have an open culture and it should come as no surprise that we're providing a forum for employees to ask questions on a topic that has received a lot of outside interest," the Facebook spokesman said.

At its f8 developer conference last month, Facebook introduced the concept of an "open graph," which is intended to create a larger, more social Facebook community across the Web. It also introduced "Community Pages" intended to provide information about various topics. The changes have been criticized by consumer groups, members of Congress, and privacy watchdogs because, the groups say, Facebook has not done enough to inform users about how their information is being used.
